The packing is woven of graphite PTFE yarn twisted through a mixture of PTFE dispersion resins and fine graphite powder plus moderate amount of heat-resistant lubricant.
Apart from its corrosion resistance, it has thermal conductivity and self-lubricating properties, and is suitable as dynamic sealing in places where media flow at high linear velocity (about 16m/s).

Packings made from PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) are a mainstay of the mechanical compression packing industry. PTFE is well known for its outstanding resistance to chemical attack, low coefficient of friction and wide temperature tolerance including cryogenic service. This wide flexibility makes PTFE packings a popular choice for those difficult applications where strong solvents, corrosive chemicals and oxidising media require to be sealed.
